Directors of Institute of Economics since its foundation have been:
Academician of Georgian Academy of Sciences Paata Gugushvili (1944-1976), Academician of Georgian Academy of Sciences Avtandil Gunia (1976-1991), Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Georgia Vladimer Papava (1991-1996), Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Giorgi Tsereteli (1996-2008).
At present director of the Institute is Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Ramaz Abesadze (since 2008).
